Christmas in August!

It felt like Christmas today for us! We received 3 boxes of goodies from our Mason City friends. What a treat! We were certainly excited to open them up.

Gotta love Bisquick!

Campbell's Soup!!!

Look at all these goodies!!!

Asher was looking for some treats himself.

Boy, was he excited by what he found! (especially his missing sock....thanks, Holly!)

New toys!

Reed loves Kettlecorn! Now if only we can get our microwave to cook for 3 minutes straight!

Asher gives a big clap to our friends for the gifts!
Thank you Alex and Holly, Cory, Jon, Brian T., Talitha, Brian B., Brandon and Lindsay!!!! Everything arrived in one piece and we feel truly blessed by you guys! THANK YOU!!!

Who Needs Toys?

Asher has way more fun pulling himself up on this basket and playing inside than actually playing with the toys it holds.

What a perfect place for a little boy to play!

Menemen (Turkish Scrambled Eggs)

I was recently introduced to this food by our friends here. We liked it and I figured that a scrambled egg variation (with some spice!) would be an easy food to try for my first go at a Turkish recipe.

This recipe is eaten with lots of bread. In fact, I was told, that many people here eat it without utensils, but use the bread to scoop up the eggs right from the pan. We actually really liked the egg/bread combo! (We cheated and used silverware though!)

Recipe:
1 onion, finely chopped
4 tomatoes
4 green hot peppers (gives it a little kick!)
8 eggs
1 tsp. paprika
salt, pepper to taste
shredded cheese (on top, optional)

Party Time

Asher was invited to his friend, Ava's birthday party. He wasn't so sure about the monkey party hat at first.

After a while, I think he forgot it was on his head!

Here were all the kids at the party. Reed is trying to hide himself in the background, while holding Asher up. It was a fun afternoon and a super cute party!

Today we are celebrating 8 years of marriage. Time sure flies! I'm so thankful for my husband. He continues to bring much joy, endless laughter, and adventure to my life!

We haven't changed a bit, right?! (ha ha)

Micah's Memorial Service

Pastor Kenny Stokes of Bethlehem Baptist Church gave some sweet and comforting words as we memorialized the life and death of our beloved Micah. Kenny takes us through the final moments of Micah's life, affirming God's sovereignty amidst great pain, reminds us that it isn't about us but about His glory, and encourages us that our hope for Micah is the same as our hope for ourselves: Jesus' work on the cross. Micah is indeed in the arms of Jesus. Through tragedy, we stand upon the promises in God's Word. And even though it's incredibly difficult, we echo the words of Job "The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised."

Here is the audio of the memorial service if you are interested in listening to it. It is about 50 minutes in length.

Micah's parents, Cory and Heather, have started a blog in order to work through the grieving process. We invite you to visit their site: www.mourningformicah.blogspot.com/, mourn with them, and send them a note of encouragement.

Micah Robert Wessman

Our precious nephew, Micah, went to be with our Lord on July 27, 2009. He was a joy to his parents and the rest of our family during his 9 months of life. He will be dearly missed on earth by his family, but we trust that he is experiencing the purest form of joy in the presence of Jesus. Please continue to pray for comfort for our family, specifically his parents, Cory and Heather.
